The Cardinals extended their winning streak to seven games with a 4-3 victory in the 11-inning opener of a twi-night doubleheader, but the string was snapped by the Expos in the nightcap, 11-3. The Cardinals loaded the bases in the 11th on a walk to Bernie Carbo, single by Dwain Anderson and pass to Luis Melendez. The Expos then stacked their infield, with three defenders on the right side of the diamond, but Lou Brock lashed a drive down the first base line past Mike Jorgensen for a single to score pinch-runner Scipio Spinks.
