After driving in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the first inning, Jim Fregosi accounted for three more RBIs with a homer in the seventh to carry the Mets to a 7-4 victory over the Pirates. The Pirates tied the score at 2-2 in the second on a homer by Richie Hebner and went ahead, 4-2, on a circuit clout by Al Oliver in the fourth and his sacrifice fly in the sixth.

The Mets pulled even in their half of the sixth with a walk to Cleon Jones, singles by Ted Martinez and Jerry Grote and a passed ball. John Milner tripled in the seventh and Jones was passed intentionally to set the stage for Fregosi's winning homer. [The Sporting News]
