Luis Tiant, who yielded only one hit in five innings of relief after replacing Sonny Siebert, was the winner when the Red Sox erased a two-run deficit to defeat the Tigers, 5-3. After the Tigers took a 3-1 lead, the Red Sox rallied for three runs in the fifth.

Doug Griffin doubled, Carl Yastrzemski tripled and Reggie Smith singled to tie the score. Smith stole second and counted the go-ahead run on a single by Juan Beniquez. [The Sporting News]
