After 14 unsuccessful tries, Mike Kekich posted his first complete game of the season and pitched the Yankees to a 5-1 victory over the Indians. Graig Nettles homered for the Indians' run in the second inning, but the Yankees tied the score in their half and then took command with three runs in the fifth on a double by Horace Clarke, singles by Thurman Munson and Bobby Murcer, a long fly by Roy White on which the runners advanced and a double by Felipe Alou.
