The Giants, who hit three homers against the Dodgers in the preceding night's game, smashed three more for the circuit and powered their way to an 8-5 victory. Dave Kingman began the slugging with a three-run smash in the first inning. Willie McCovey and Dave Rader homered in the fifth, Rader's blow coming with a man on base, to add three more runs.

Steve Garvey hit a two-run homer for the Dodgers in the first. Randy Moffitt, the brother of tennis star Billie Jean King, received credit for his first major league victory after taking over for Sam McDowell with the bases loaded and none out in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
