The White Sox erupted for four runs in the eighth inning to beat the Twins, 5-1, and enabled Dave Lemonds to gain his first major league victory. Harmon Killebrew homered for the Twins' run in the seventh to tie the score at 1-1.

Carlos May walked to open the eighth for the White Sox and Rick Reichardt singled. Mike Andrews struck out, but Ed Herrmann singled to drive in the tie-breaking tally. Rich Morales followed with a single for another run. After Jay Johnstone, batting for Lemonds, moved the runners up with a grounder, Pat Kelly singled to score Herrmann and Morales.
