The Yankees extended their winning streak to five games by sweeping a doubleheader with the Indians, 6-1 and 5-2. Fritz Peterson hurled the route in the opener and received his chief batting support from Bobby Murcer, who doubled and scored in the first inning, batted in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the second and added another RBI with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Ron Blomberg homered for the Yankees in the second inning of the nightcap, but the Indians went ahead with the aid of a double and homer by Graig Nettles before the Yankees decided the outcome of the game with two runs in the sixth on consecutive two-out singles by Murcer, Roy White, Blomberg and Bernie Allen.
