. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Denny McLain, making his N. L. debut in an Atlanta uniform, wound up with no decision when the second game of a twi-night doubleheader between the Braves and Cubs was stopped by rain in the top half of the eighth inning with the score tied, 3-3. The Braves won the first game, 5-1, by exploding for four runs in the seventh inning. Paul Casanova sparked the outburst with his first N. L. homer to break a 1-1 tie and Mike Lum capped the scoring with a three-run wallop.

The holiday crowd of 50,597, fourth largest in Atlanta's history, gave McLain a standing ovation when he took the mound in the nightcap. The former A. L. Cy Young Award winner gave up nine hits, including a homer by Jose Cardenal. The Cubs had two men on base with none out in the eighth when the umpires were forced to call the game off.
