The tremendous relief pitching of Dick Tidrow together with a two-run homer by John Lowenstein, enabled the Indians to snap their eight-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory over the Rangers. Mike Kilkenny, who started for the Indians, struck out five of the first six batters he faced before walking Larry Biittner to open the third inning.

Ted Kubiak then hit a hot smash to Kilkenny, who started a double play. However, the ball hit Kilkenny on the throwing hand and fractured his index finger, forcing him to surrender the mound to Tidrow. [The Sporting News]
