With Paul Spllttorff pitching a three-hitter, the Royals gained one of their rare victories over Mickey Lolich, knocking out the veteran lefthander in the sixth inning and defeating the Tigers, 8-2. Lolich had beaten the Royals eight times, including twice earlier this season, and had lost to them only once previously. Freddie Patek hit a double and single off Lolich, scored two runs and drove in one. [The Sporting News] |
