The Red Sox pitching staff boasted a string of five straight complete games and two successive shutouts when Marty Pattin scattered five hits and beat the Twins, 2-0. Lynn McGlothen also had blanked the Twins, 2-0, in the previous day's game.

Jim Perry, who opposed Pattin, helped beat himself with a wild pitch after a double by Carlton Fisk in the second inning. Bob Burda scored Fisk with a sacrifice fly. The other runs counted off Dave LaRoche in the eighth when Tommy Harper was hit by a pitch, stole second and came home on a double by Carl Yastrzemski. [The Sporting News]
