. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Gaylord Perry posted his 13th victory of the year and Ed Farmer gained his first of the season as the Indians edged the Rangers in both ends of a twi-night doubleheader, 4-3 and 6-5, with the second game going 12 innings. In the lidlifter, the Indians took a 4-1 lead with two runs in the seventh on singles by Alex Johnson and Ray Fosse, a late throw to the plate on a grounder by Lou Camilli and a single by John Lowenstein, enabling Perry to survive a two-run rally by the Rangers in the ninth.

Chris Chambliss, who had three hits for the Indians in the first game, came back with three more in the second contest. After the Rangers took a 5-2 lead, Jerry Moses hit a two-run homer for the Indians in the eighth and Chambliss batted in the tying tally with a double in the ninth. Johnson then singled in the 12th and raced home from first with the winning run on a double by Graig Nettles. [The Sporting News]
