An unearned run on a throwing error by Amos Otis enabled the Indians to defeat the Royals, 2-1. In the second inning, Graig Nettles walked, took third on a single by Alex Johnson and scored on a single by Ray Fosse.

When Otis' throw to third struck Johnson and bounced into the Royals' dugout, Johnson scored what proved to be the deciding run. Lou Piniella homered for the Royals' marker in the third. [The Sporting News]
