Bernie Allen, the first batter to face reliever Wayne Granger in the 11th inning, smashed a homer to give the Yankees a 1-0 victory over the Twins. Granger took over after Bert Blyleven was removed for a pinch-hitter in his scoreless duel with Mel Stottlemyre. When Danny Thompson singled to lead off the Twins' half of the 11th, Sparky Lyle replaced Stottlemyre and recorded his 18th save of the season. [The Sporting News]
