Fielding lapses by the Braves resulted in three unearned runs and enabled the Pirates to gain a 5-3 victory. The Pirates' only earned run scored in the second inning on triples by Manny Sanguillen and Richie Hebner and an infield out by Gene Alley.

Steve Blass gained his 10th victory with help from Ramon Hernandez and Dave Giusti. Ralph Garr homered with a man on base for the Braves in the third and Darrell Evans added their other run with a solo swat in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
