A wild pitch by Lowell Palmer with the bases loaded and two out in the 15th inning enabled the Braves to defeat the Cardinals, 5-4. Lou Brock had five hits in six trips for the Cardinals. Hank Aaron hit his 658th homer for the Braves, connecting with two men on base in the seventh inning, and also walked five times.

In the 15th, Gil Garrido led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. George Stone was up to bunt, but Palmer passed him on four pitches. Garrido took third after a long fly by Mike Lum. After Dusty Baker was called out on strikes, the Cardinals passed Aaron intentionally to load the bases. Then, with a count of one ball and two strikes on Oscar Brown, Palmer threw a curve that bounced in the dirt past Ted Simmons, allowing Garrido to score. [The Sporting News]
