A loser of five previous decisions, Mike Corkins gained his first victory of the season when the Padres defeated the Expos, 6-5. Corkins was the second of six pitchers used by the Padres.

Larry Stahl and Cito Gaston homered for the Padres. In the fifth inning, after Dave Roberts singled and Stahl walked, Gaston singled to drive in what proved to be the winning run. [The Sporting News]
