While getting four-hit pitching from Jon Matlack, the Mets took advantage of Sam McDowell's wildness and proceeded to defeat the Giants, 4-0. McDowell walked the first three batters he faced and a run scored while Jim Fregosi was grounding into a double play.

A walk to Wayne Garrett, infield hit by Matlack and triple by Bud Harrelson added a pair in the second. Willie Mays singled, Duffy Dyer was hit by a pitch and Bill Sudakis singled to produce the final run in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
