Following the example of Gibson, who posted a shutout in the previous night's game, Reggie Cleveland pitched the Cardinals to a 2-0 victory over the Braves. The Redbird righthander allowed only two singles and extended his personal winning streak to seven games.

The Cardinals scored their initial run in the fourth inning on a double by Matty Alou, single by Ted Simmons and infield out by Bernie Carbo. Jose Cruz singled in the seventh, stole second, continued to third on a wild throw by Earl Williams and counted an insurance run on a single by Cleveland. [The Sporting News]
