The first pitcher in the major leagues to win 15 games this season, Mickey Lolich reached that mark when the Tigers defeated the Royals, 6-4. The Tigers sent 10 men to bat in the first inning and provided Lolich with a five-run lead against Paul Splittorff, who was stopped on his personal five-game winning streak.

Ed Brinkman drove in two runs with a single and then accounted for another RBI in the third with a bunt that scored Ike Brown, who doubled and stole third. Amos Otis and Rochie Scheinblum homered in the ninth for the Royals. [The Sporting News]
