In the lidlifter, Bob Robertson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in the Pirates' winning run.

In the nightcap, the Pirates picked up an unearned run in the first inning and then scored twice in the fourth on a single by Al Oliver, double by Willie Stargell and single by Rennie Stennett.
