The Athletics completed the sweep of a four-game series with the Yankees by beating Mel Stottlemyre, 5-2. Stottlemyre, who went into the game with 22 innings of scoreless pitching to his credit, was stopped on his streak when Joe Rudi, the second batter to face him, smashed a homer. Mike Epstein also homered with a man on base in the sixth inning. [The Sporting News]
