The Orioles built up a 7-0 lead, scoring their last run on an error, and then staggered to a 7-6 victory over the Royals. In the fourth inning, Don Baylor singled, stole second and scored on a single by Brooks Robinson to put the Orioles ahead, 6-0. When Lou Piniella missed connections with the hit to left field, Robinson circled the bases to score what proved to be the deciding run.

The Royals, in their comeback, knocked out Pat Dobson in the sixth after counting their first five runs, but Grant Jackson allowed only one more run in 3 1/3 innings of game-saving relief work. [The Sporting News]
