. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Yankees, who were shut out in the first game, 1-0, came slugging back with three homers and beat the Angels in the second game of a doubleheader, 7-1. Sparky Lyle, who relieved Steve Kline at the start of the eighth inning, was the loser of the lidlifter. Leo Cardenas greeted Lyle with a single and Vada Pinson doubled. After an intentional pass to Bob Oliver, Ken McMullen forced Cardenas at the plate, but Andy Kosco batted for Jim Spencer and hit a sacrifice fly to produce the Angels' first run off Yankee pitching in 38 innings.

In the nightcap, the Yankees jumped on Nolan Ryan for three runs in the first inning on a walk to Horace Clarke and homers by Bobby Murcer and Ron Blomberg. Roy White added two runs with a circuit clout in the third. Rob Gardner, who had the Angels shut out until Oliver homered in the ninth, turned in his first complete game in the major leagues since pitching for the Mets in 1966. [The Sporting News]
