Hector Torres, who entered the game in the first inning after Tim Foli was banished in an argument with the umpires, smashed a tie-breaking homer in the sixth to send the Expos on their way to a 3-1 victory over the Padres. Ron Hunt doubled in the first, stole second and scored on an infield out by Foli, who drew the thumb in a beef over the call at first base.

A walk to Fred Norman, a sacrifice and single by Dave Roberts supplied the Padres' tying run in the third. After Torres hit his deciding homer, the Expos added a run in the ninth on a pass to Mike Marshall with the bases loaded. [The Sporting News]
