Making his first start since June 24, Bill Singer gained his first victory since May 16 when the Dodgers defeated the Phillies, 4-3. Singer was lifted with two men on base in the ninth inning and Willie Montanez homered off Jim Brewer to account for the Phillies' runs.

The Dodgers scored three times in the fourth, two coming on a homer by Frank Robinson, and added what proved to be the deciding tally in the seventh when Bill Buckner tripled and Willie Davis singled. Singer had been out of action since suffering a broken knuckle in late June. [The Sporting News]
