A double by Ted Ford was the big blow as the Rangers scored three runs in the first inning to defeat the Tigers, 3-1, behind the combined four-hit hurling of Rich Hand and Horacio Pina. Dave Nelson, leading off for the Rangers, was hit by a pitch and stole second and third. Larry Biittner walked and, with two out, Ford hit his double to drive in both runners. Joe Lovitto followed with a single to score Ford.
