. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Jim Perry and Jim Strickland combined on a shutout and Dave Goltz gained his first major league victory, also with Strickland relieving, as the Twins defeated the Brewers, 3-0 and 6-5. Harmon Killebrew homered for the Twins in each game. Perry, who yielded only four hits in the opener, was lifted with two men on base and one out in the ninth inning. Strickland saved the game by inducing Tommie Reynolds to ground into a double play.

Goltz, called up from Tacoma (Pacific Coast), batted in a run with a single in the fourth inning and held a 4-0 lead before serving up a two-run homer by Ellie Rodriguez in the seventh. Wayne Granger finished the inning and Strickland took over in the eighth in his second relief appearance of the day. The Twins scored twice in the ninth on singles by Danny Thompson and Steve Braun, a pass to Strickland and single by Bobby Darwin. Those runs proved important when Strickland gave up a three-run homer by George Scott before ending the game. [The Sporting News]
