Getting tight pitching from Mike Torrez and Balor Moore, the Expos defeated the Padres, 2-1 and 9-1, to sweep a doubleheader for the first time since beating the Reds in a pair April 18, 1971. and for the first time on the road since taking two from the Padres April 28, 1970. Ron Hunt, who was safe on an error in the first and walked in the eighth, scored the Expos' runs in the lidlifter, crossing the plate each time on singles by Jim Fairey.

Hunt set a major league record in the nightcap when hit by a pitch for 193rd time in his career. Mark Schaeffer threw the ball that struck Hunt on his left foot in the seventh inning. Bob Bailey belted a two-run homer and Tim McCarver drove in three runs with a double and single in the Expos' support of Moore, who struck out 13 batters. [The Sporting News]
