Getting tight pitching from Mike Torrez and Balor Moore, the Expos defeated the Padres, 2-1 and 9-1, to sweep a doubleheader for the first time since beating the Reds in a pair April 18, 1971. and for the first time on the road since taking two from the Padres April 28, 1970. Ron Hunt, who was safe on an error in the first and walked in the eighth, scored the Expos' runs in the lidlifter, crossing the plate each time on singles by Jim Fairey.
