Steve Carlton batted himself to his ninth straight victory with a two-run triple in the seventh inning that gave the Phillies a 2-0 edge over the Dodgers. Greg Luzinski opened the seventh with a single and yielded the paths to Bill Robinson.

When Willie Montanez bunted, both runners were safe on Tommy John's late throw to second. John then struck out both Roger Freed and John Bateman before Carlton came to the plate and won his own game. [The Sporting News]
