The Tigers, who were held to one hit until two out in the ninth inning, rallied for three runs on a homer by Norm Cash to win the first game of a doubleheader, 3-2, and then completed the sweep with an 8-5 victory over the Brewers in the second game. Bill Parsons, pitching the opener for the Brewers, had one out in the ninth when Aurelio Rodriguez was safe on an error by Mike Ferraro. Jim Northrup struck out, but Willie Horton singled and Cash followed with his winning homer.

After each club had a four-run inning in the nightcap, the Brewers went ahead in the fifth on singles by Rick Auerbach and George Scott around a stolen base. Al Kaline doubled in the Tigers' eighth and, with one out, Horton was handed an intentional pass. Ike Brown singled Kaline home with the tying tally. Mickey Stanley singled to load the bases and Ed Brinkman broke the deadlock with a two-run single. The final marker then scored on an error. [The Sporting News]
