Nolan Ryan did not yield a hit for 7 2/3 innings and then had to settle for a two-hitter while pitching the Angels to a 5-0 victory over the Rangers for his sixth shutout of the season. Larry Biittner doubled to wreck Ryan's bid in the eighth and Jim Mason added a single in the ninth.

Billy Parker, just called up from Salt Lake City (Pacific Coast), gave Ryan enough runs to win when the rookie outfielder drove in two with a bases-loaded single in the first inning. [The Sporting News]
