Steve Carlton gained his 10th straight victory, breaking the Phillies' club record, when Greg Luzinski singled off Milt Pappas in the ninth inning and Willie Montanez homered to defeat the Cubs, 2-0. The former Phillies' record of nine victories in a row was set by Grover Cleveland Alexander in 1915 and was tied by Ken Heintzelman in 1949 and Robin Roberts in 1952. [The Sporting News]
