Rudy May was hit in the stomach by a line drive off the bat of Frank Howard in the fourth inning, but the southpaw remained in the game and pitched the Angels to an 8-1 victory over the Rangers. To show his fortitude, May came to bat in the Angels' half of the fourth and doubled.

Two walks followed to load the bases. Bob Oliver then grounded to Dave Nelson for an infield hit and when the third baseman threw wildly, all three runners on base scored. [The Sporting News]
