After the Indians won the first game, 3-2, Tom Hilgendorf, a 30-year-old rookie lefthander picked up from Omaha (American Association), completed the sweep by defeating the Brewers in the second game, 6-1, for his first major league victory. George Scott hit a homer and double to bat the Brewers to a 2-1 lead in the lidlifter before the Indians rallied in the ninth inning. Tommy McCraw led off with a homer to tie the score. After Frank Duffy flied out, Jack Brohamer walked and stopped at second on a single by Buddy Bell. Graig Nettles hit a long fly, enabling Brohamer to take third after the catch. Ray Fosse then hit a grounder to Rick Auerbach, who booted the ball, enabling Brohamer to score the winning run.
