Duffy Dyer homered following a walk to Cleon Jones in the eighth inning to provide the Mets with a 4-2 victory over the Expos. Brent Strom, making his major league debut with the Mets after being called up from Tidewater (International), allowed only one hit and had a 2-0 lead going into the seventh when the young lefthander tired.

A single by Tim Foli, two walks and a sacrifice fly by Ken Singleton produced one run. After Danny Frisella relieved, an error by Wayne Garrett allowed the Expos to add the tying tally. [The Sporting News]
