The White Sox, continuing to enjoy success in close games, beat the Rangers, 3-2, when Dick Allen doubled to score Buddy Bradford in the ninth inning. Bradford batted for Stan Bahnsen and singled. When Pat Kelly bunted, all hands were safe on a late throw to second.

Jay Johnstone, who had homered earlier in the game, failed twice to sacrifice. The White Sox then sent Rick Reichardt to bat for Johnstone. Horacio Pina replaced Paul Lindblad and threw a called strike past Reichardt for a strikeout charged to Johnstone. However, Pina was unable to handle Allen, who rapped his winning double.
