Homers by Jerry Moses and Chris Chambliss carried the Indians to a 2-1 victory in the first game of a doubleheader before the Tigers came back with two circuit clouts by Mickey Stanley and one by Willie Horton to win the second game, 6-5. Steve Dunning, who gave up a homer by Jim Northrup for the Tigers' run, gained his first victory of the season in the opener with the aid of Steve Mingori, who relieved in the seventh inning.

In the nightcap, Stanley belted a two-run homer in the second to pace the Tigers to a 3-1 lead, but the Indians went ahead with four runs in the seventh, three scoring on a round-tripper by Eddie Leon. Bill Freehan singled and Horton homered to tie the score in the eighth and, one out later, Stanley provided the winning run with his second smash of the game. [The Sporting News]
