Jim Willoughby pitched the route and gained his first major league victory as the Giants won the nightcap of a doubleheader, 6-2, after losing the opener to the Astros, 7-3. Lee May drove in two runs with a single and double and also scored twice to lead the Astros' attack in the first game. Johnny Edwards reached base five straight times on three singles and two walks. Chris Speier, Ken Henderson and Dave Kingman hit homers for the Giants in the second game and Ed Goodson drove in two runs with a pair of singles. With the victory, the Giants snapped a five-game losing streak and stopped the Astros on their four-game winning streak. [The Sporting News] |
