The largest crowd of the season at Minnesota, 33,571, saw the Twins lose the first game of a doubleheader to the Athletics, 6-3 in 13 innings, and win the second game, 5-1. The Twins sent the opener into extra innings when Harmon Killebrew hit a homer in the ninth. The blow was the 534th of Killer's career, tying him with Jimmie Foxx for fifth place on the major leagues' all-time list. The A's shattered the deadlock in the 13th when Bill Voss doubled and scored on a single by Tim Cullen. Mike Hegan followed with a single and Bert Campaneris then doubled to add two extra tallies.
