The Indians erupted for four runs in the eighth inning, three scoring on a pinch-double by Jack Brohamer, to defeat the Red Sox, 6-2. With the score tied, 1-1, Del Unser led off with a single and Eddie Leon walked. After Bill Lee replaced Lynn McGlothen, Chris Chambliss forced Unser in an attempt to sacrifice, but Graig Nettles singled, driving in Leon to break the tie.

Tommie McCraw walked to load the bases. When Roy Foster was announced as a pinch-hitter for John Lowenstein, Don Newhauser relieved. Brohamer then batted for Foster and doubled. [The Sporting News]
