Marty Pattin pitched a five-hitter and emerged as the winner in a duel with Dick Tidrow when the Red Sox scored three runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Indians, 4-1. A double by Rick Miller, sacrifice by Pattin and single by Doug Griffin provided a run to break a 1-1 tie. The Red Sox then added two more tallies to clinch the decision on a single by Luis Aparicio, sacrifice fly by Carl Yastrzemski and single by Rico Petrocelli. [The Sporting News]
