Wilbur Wood gained his 19th victory of the season and provided the White Sox run with a two-out single in the seventh inning to beat the Angels, 1-0. Wood, who hurled the route, gave up six hits. Nolan Ryan, who was the loser, yielded only one hit until the seventh when Ed Herrmann singled with two out.

Buddy Bradford, running for Herrmann, took second on a wild pitch. Ryan passed Luis Alvarado intentionally to get at Wood, who blooped a single behind first base, Bradford scoring. The shutout was Wood's sixth, tying him with Ryan and with Dave McNally of the Orioles for the A. L. lead. [The Sporting News]
