. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Completing the previous night's game, which was suspended by curfew after 17 innings with a 3-3 score, the Athletics gained a 5-3 victory on a two-run homer by Joe Rudi in the 19th, but the White Sox came back to win the regularly-scheduled contest, 1-0, behind the two-hit pitching of Dave Lemonds and Cy Acosta. Catfish Hunter was the winner of the completed game and the loser of the contest that followed.

When play resumed in the suspended game, Hunter took the mound as the A's eighth pitcher against Stan Bahnsen, who was the seventh hurler used by the White Sox. In the 19th, Bert Campaneris beat out a bunt and George Hendrick sacrificed. With first base open, the White Sox chose to pitch to Rudi, who showed it was a mistake by smashing his game-winning homer.

Pat Kelly opened the regularly-scheduled contest with a single, stole second and scored the game's only run on a two-out single by Carlos May. [The Sporting News]
