While Bruce Dal Canton and Norm Angelini combined on a shutout, the Royals scored three unearned runs and defeated the Yankees, 3-0. Paul Schaal was safe on an error by Gene Michael in the third inning and Bobby Floyd singled. Then, after two outs, infield hits by Cookie Rojas and Richie Scheinblum produced two runs. Dal Canton reached base on an error by Horace Clarke in the seventh and counted on singles by Steve Hovley and Lou Piniella.

Dal Canton allowed only two hits until Clarke and Thurman Munson singled with one out in the ninth. Angelini relieved and ended the threat to record his first major league save. [The Sporting News]
