Although knocked out in the seventh inning, Wilbur Wood gained his 21st victory when the White Sox defeated the Brewers, 8-6. Wood gave up 10 hits and was charged with five of the Brewers' runs. Luis Alvarado hit an inside-park homer for the White Sox with two men on base in the second inning. A single by Walt Williams, pass to Dick Allen, triple by Rick Reichardt and double by Carlos May added three runs in the third and the deciding pair followed in the sixth without the benefit of a hit.

Ed Herrmann walked and Earl Stephenson threw late to second on a grounder by Alvarado. Passes to Williams and Mike Andrews forced in one run and the other counted on a grounder by Muser as Alvarado beat the throw to the plate. [The Sporting News]
