The Angels erupted for nine runs in the fourth inning to take a 9-2 lead, but the Tigers came back with an eight-run rally in the sixth to win a wild game, 11-9. The Angels sent 13 men to the plate in their outburst. Vada Pinson ignited the explosion with a homer and was hit by a pitch on his second trip to the plate. The Angels also collected eight singles, including two each by Sandy Alomar and Chris Coletta, plus a walk, before their spree subsided.

Aurelio Rodriguez touched off the Tigers' comeback in the sixth with a double and capped the rally with a two-run homer. In between, the Tigers rapped six singles and a sacrifice fly. [The Sporting News]
