Reserve catcher Bill Plummer, filling in for Johnny Bench who was out with an injured finger, drove in two runs with a single to help the Reds defeat the Expos, 4-1. Joe Morgan homered for the Reds in the first inning and Plummer added his pair in the fifth after a single by Denis Menke, forceout by Cesar Geronimo, single by Darrel Chaney and passed ball by Tim McCarver.

Tony Perez doubled and Menke singled for another run in the sixth. Mike Jorgensen homered in the ninth to prevent an Expos' shutout. [The Sporting News]
