Carl Yastrzemski observed his 33rd birthday with a two-run homer in the third inning to help the Red Sox defeat the Royals, 10-7. Carlton Fisk and John Kennedy also drove in two runs apiece for the Red Sox, who built up a 10-2 lead before the Royals scored five times in the last two innings, including a homer by John Mayberry with a man on base.
