A hero for the second straight time, Jim Beauchamp drove in all of the Mets' runs with a homer and two singles to defeat the Astros, 4-2. The journeyman first baseman-outfielder batted in a run with a single in the second inning and tied the score at 2-2 with his homer in the fourth.

Then, in the eighth, after a single by Wayne Garrett, sacrifice by Willie Mays and two passes, Beauchamp singled to provide the Mets with their winning margin. In the previous night's game, Beauchamp smashed two homers, his second blow coming with a man on base in the ninth inning to beat the Astros, 4-2. [The Sporting News]
